Our U21 side were in Championship action last Saturday, December 4th in Pรกirc Aodh Rua, Killygordan against Carndomhnaigh. A good sporting game given the conditions by a young Naomh Ultan side whose team consisted of just one player overage for 2022. Carndomhnaigh did start the brighter of the two sides but Luke Gallagher and Matthew Huntley made sure to keep it a close encounter, at half time the score was 0-4 to 0-3 in favour of Carn.
The second half opened up more and through Gallagher again and substitute Charlie Blain they get level within 5 minutes of the restart. Gallagher matched Carn's scores twice before Carn managed to get back ahead by two. Naomh Ultan did have opportunities at goal and will be left to rue them. Chris Boyle came very close to the net when his shot blazed over the bar, to which Kyle Breslin then added it another to put three between the sides.
That is how the game finished as Carndomhnaigh were able to hold out. A strong effort from the young Naomh Ultan side who fought right until the end. Thanks to the management team of Michael Hegarty, Bud Kennedy, John Boyle and Peter McFarlane and Dermot McGlynn who also helped out with the team. It was great to be able to field once again at this age and hopefully this young side can push on in next year's competition.
