Our Minor side played out their penultimate fixture of their 2021 league last night, September 6th in Glencolmcille. It was Naomh Columba that got the scoreboard moving first pointing from their opening attack, Naomh Ultan responded via Luke Gallagher soon after. Glen then raced into a three point lead converting three opportunities from play on the trot. That was somewhat matched by the men from Dunkineely as Matthew Huntley got on the end of a move to send it over the bar.

The water break came and went and it was Naomh Ultan that scored next, Gallagher sent over a free to make it a one point game. That score ended up being the last of the cagey half of football. Half Time - Naomh Columba 0-4 Naomh Ultan 0-3

The game was bound to open up a little after the interval and that is exactly what occurred, Naomh Columba struck first and hit the net on 32 minutes to stretch out their lead and get off to a dream start in the half. They pointed from play five minutes later but Naomh Ultan went up the field immediately from the kickout and Jack Hegarty converted a fine effort from distance. Glen made sure to stomp out any comeback from Naomh Ultan by pointing twice on the 38th and 41st minute. Hegarty added to his second with a free on 44 minutes but again Glen responded with a score just as the water break was to be called.

Goals were on the agenda in the final quarter it seemed, on 52 minutes Hegarty took it upon himself to bring the game to Naomh Columba as he rounded their keeper and tapped the ball into the net to take it back to three point game. However, similar to any resurgence from Naomh Ultan earlier in the game, Glen reacted well and one minute after conceding their first they scored their second goal of the evening. They added their third on 56 minutes to really kill off the game and cement the result. Credit to Naomh Ultan and especially Hegarty who didn't give up and were rewarded on 57 minutes when Jack managed to chip the opposition keeper to get his and his side's second goal. Hegarty then followed up with a free in the last minute of normal time to tighten up the scores but like so many times before in this fixture Naomh Columba had other ideas. They added their 4th goal of the evening in the 3rd minute of added time and popped over two more scores before the ref called a half to proceedings.

A disappointing result for our Minor side after going a couple of games on the bounce with good victories. They'll have to dust themselves down and look forward to Friday when they play Chill Chartha in their final league game of 2021. That one throws in at 18:30pm in Pairc Naomh Ultan, Dunkineely.
