Our seniors travelled to Clonmany on Saturday, August 21st to take on Urris in the final round of their league fixtures. Having won last week they were looking to finish their league campaign with a victory, but they had their work cut out for them as Urris were firing on all cylinders. It was Naomh Ultan who got the first score in the opening minute, Daniel Gallagher pointing from distance after they won the throw-in. Urris responded immediately getting a point from a free, it was ten minutes then until we saw another score. The Urris keeper pointed a 45 on the 11th minute of the game, and did so again a minute later to put Urris two up. Everything was going Urris' way as Naomh Ultan had chances but didn't convert, they made the most of this then just before the first water break getting their first from play to make it a three point game.
Two minutes into the restart Urris added to their scoreboard, scoring a free from 21 metres. Similar to the opening quarter Naomh Ultan had their chances but were left to rue them as they didn't take their opportunities. Urris made sure to take theirs, scoring three more points over the course of a 10 minute spell and things weren't looking great for Naomh Ultan at the break. Urris 0-8 Naomh Ultan 0-1
Naomh Ultan got off to a better start in the second half, Daragh Murrin pointed in the 34th minute and that was followed up by a Cian Kennedy free two minutes later. Those scores were matched by Urris who scored in the same order getting one from play and finishing off a free kick in the 38th minute. The men from Dunkineely had to make their chances count in order to stay in this game and that eventually happened, they got four points on the trot from Gallagher, Kennedy from a free and then from play and Shaun White.
The resurgence was well and truly on but disaster struck for Naomh Ultan, with ten minutes remaining Urris got a goal to put six between them. They had to go searching for a goal of their own as time wasn't on their side and they got that opportunity on 53 minutes as they were awarded a penalty after a trip in the Urris box. Up stepped Shaun White who had his original shot saved but then scored the rebound to take the game back to three points. Urris reacted the better after the penalty, almost immediately getting a point from the kickout. Naomh Ultan were taking their chances and were finding gaps in the Urris defence, it was Gallagher on 57 minutes who got the crucial score for them when he drove towards the goal and smashed the ball into the net to tighten the game up.Aiden Duddy pointed from distance two minutes later to level up proceedings and it was Kennedy again who gave Naomh Ultan the lead just as normal time was finishing.
Ref Mark Dorrian had to add plenty of stoppage time and that worked in favour of Naomh Ultan as they were in good scoring form. Daniel Gallagher added to his account for the day with a long range point and Peter Alvey opened his account up with a point of his own. Urris did push for a goal to level it back up but the Naomh Ultan defence were resilient and held out for a very hard fought win.
