Two wins on the bounce for our Minor side as they managed to overturn Na Cealla Beaga last night, Friday July 30th in Pairc Naomh Ultan. There was an extended break in the league for almost three weeks as it passed the mid way point of fixtures, Naomh Ultan had just gathered some momentum after a great result in Kilcar and it looks as if they've pushed on during their break as they put in another great performance last night.
Very much the Luke Gallagher show on the scoreboard, getting 2-7 of his side's 2-8 but this was very much a team effort, with a number of key players back from injury Naomh Ultan were finally at their strongest going into this one. Gallagher got Naomh Ultan off to the dream start getting two goals early on to put 6 between the sides. He pointed after Na Cealla Beaga responded with a point of their own. They added two more before the water break to leave it 2-1 to 0-3. Na Cealla Beaga pointed after the restart but again Luke Gallagher took it to them, scoring four unanswered points to leave it 2-5 to 0-4 at the break.
Na Cealla Beaga were always going to rally at some stage and it was a case of whether Naomh Ultan could weather that storm or not. They did score twice but another Gallagher point kept them at a distance. Again, they scored two more to leave it at 2-6 to 0-8 at the second water break. Four points up with 15 minutes left Na Cealla Beaga fought hard to get that score narrowed down and did so, scoring two more points to make it a two point game. Substitute Kyle McGeoghan got an important point with 5 minutes left to make it a three point game, Na Cealla Beaga did respond with another point however up stepped man of the match Luke Gallagher late on to give Naomh Ultan a well deserved three point win!
Massive well done to the team and management, another great result. Next up is Naomh Columba in Pairc na nGael on Friday, August 6th at 7:30pm.
